I recently finished a book commission for Badger Publishing, marking my debut in working with a haunted theme. Embracing the creative challenge, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I eagerly anticipate the publication in mid-September 2024, when I'll be able to share my illustrations with the world.
'The Sanctuary' is a handmade (Accordion - fold) book that creates a playful reading experience. The core essence of this project is to promote Animal Liberation Animals have no personal agency. Their individuality is established based on the complex oral significance of society’s understanding of certain animals and not others. It was essential to identify their emotions and correlate them to human experiences of love, grief, friendship, and determination.
The Singing Halakkis
This project was inspired by the ‘Halakki Vokkaligas’ of India, who possess a rich and ancient folklore that shares a close bond with the practice of singing. The Halakki women are powerful and hold the community together, they sing songs to assert their identity and belief, passed down through generations. Illustrations were developed by interpreting and responding to the research. This project was digitally created on photoshop, by implementing the subdued colours famously portrayed in traditional miniature Indian paintings.
Phyllis "Pippa" Latour
These developmental illustrations are about the life of Phyllis "Pippa" Latour - who was a heroine of the Special Operations Executive during the Second World War. She was trained in radio skills, surveillance, sabotage, map reading, and self-defense before parachuting into Normandy on May 1, 1944. Cycling through the French countryside with coded information hidden in her hair, Latour used hidden radio sets to send information to Britain that would help guide bombing missions to enemy targets.
